The Individual Constitution
The constitution of each person is unique. According to Ayurveda it is not only determined by the three Doshas.
Among other things genetic factors are considered. Even the nutrition of the mother during pregnancy has effects on future life.
According to Ayurveda the individual constitution determines how susceptible a person is for diseases. If the Ayurveda physician knows the constitution of the patient, he can initiate a successful treatment. An Ayurveda physician is said to be able to determine the future constitution of a person astrologically even before birth.
Agni
Agni is fire in a biological sense which adjusts the metabolism. Agni is sour, splits the food in the stomach and energizes digestion. As element it is found in the entire body: each cell controls its metabolism with it. Thus, Agni is very important for the immune system.
On the other hand Agni is connected with longevity, intelligence, understanding and apprehension.
If Agni is disturbed, then the Tridoshas are not in harmony. A consequence of the disturbed Agni: the immune system fails.
If the metabolism is disturbed, the food is not digested correctly. Residues remain as waste in the body. These residues are called Ama in Ayurveda.
The waste products in metabolism are:
- Excrements (Purisha)
Develop from food in the large intestine. - Urine (Mutra)
Urine production begins in the large intestine, which takes up the liquid. Urine is formed within the urine area: kidneys, urethra, ureter and bladder. - Sweat (Sweda)
Sweat is formed in the fat tissue and excreted by the pores in the skin. Thus the body temperature is adjusted.
Our organism is supported by the “seven tissues”. These are constitutive elements of our body such as cartilage, bones, blood, plasma etc. The seven tissues are called Sapta Dhatus in Sanskrit. A disturbance of the Doshas will always lead to concrete problems with the Dhatus.
