Elements of ayurveda

Pancha Mahabhutas, the five elements of an ayurveda retreat.

Ayurveda medicine concentrates not only to the body. Man is a part of the universe and its principles. Thus ayurvedic retreats and health care are aligned to the elements of the universe which is said to consist of five elements. This is an old wisdom teached by many spiritual traditions: The universe is the macrocosm, while man is the microcosm.

All ayurveda healing and all ayurvedic retreats should be considered as based on the five elements in according to the human being.

For example an ayurvdic retreat should include sounds (music), touch (massage), colors (flowers, lightful rooms), taste (food and drinks) and smells (incence, flowers). These elements are often combined with yoga and meditations.

The five elements (Pancha Mahabhutas) are called ether, air, fire, water and earth. These elements refer to the etheric, gaseous, radiant, fluid, and solid states of matter and their respective principles of space, movement, light, cohesion, and density.

The principles ar far more subtle than their sensible counterparts on earth. According to the Sankhya-Yoga (philosophy) system they evolve from mind. Each of these elements in ayurveda has essential and auxiliary characteristics.
