Ayurveda - the Knowledge of Life

ayurvedic retreatAyurveda is one of old India’s greatest gifts to mankind and the oldest medical system in the world.
The Ayurveda system treats man as a whole, in the combination of body, spirit and soul.

During a journey to India I made my first acquaintance with Ayurveda. The man of a befriended family in India had gotten a smoker’s leg. Unfortunately, the conventional medicine could not do anything and his condition worsened. Since he had nothing to loose he dared to visit an Ayurveda physician in Delhi, although he did not believe in this kind of medicine. The physician examined the man, listened to his complaints, mixed some ingredients to brown globules and gave them to my friend. From this day on and during the entire therapy I could watch the leg getting better and better.

Ayurveda is certainly no miracle cure in every sense. But since Ayurveda treats the whole person, diseases can not only be treated but also prevented in order to stay healthy.

Ayurveda or the Ayurvedic system is not only a medical system but a way of living.

The Sanskrit word “Ayu” means life in all its aspects, from birth till death.
The word “Veda” means knowledge and learning.
Ayurveda means knowledge and learning about life and includes Ayurveda teas, Ayurveda massages, Ayurveda recipes for tea, food and oils, yoga and meditation.

The Veda was orally passed on for thousands of years and finally written down. This knowledge was systematized and edited by Maharishi Mahesh and thus became accessible for the west.
