The Three Gunas

| Many people who take part in Ayurveda, vitalize their body with yoga. Yoga and ayurveda have a more than 1000 years old indian tradition and harmonize very well together. Many ayurveda hotels offer both of them in an ayurvedic retreat. |
The Qualities of Life
In the Ayurveda tradition the human spiritual level is under the influence of the three Gunas (als called Trigunas) Rajas, Tamas, Sattvas. These Trigunas have the following qualities:
- Sattvas - Consciousness and intelligence, quiet and clear.
- Rajas - Movement, activity, excitable, wild.
- Tamas - The strength which resists both, thick, sluggish, heavy and dark.
Gunas are pure qualities. They manifest in human qualities like temperament, behaviour, mental or body constitution. In most cases Tamas and Rajas have to be compensated and Sattvas has to be strengthened.
Balanced food takes an important part in ayurvedic retreats. Yoga and meditation are said to be excellent paths to strenghthen Sattvas.[adsense:468x60:1:1]
Music, smells, the touch in a massage: Any sensual experience has a quality which will take influence in body and mind.
It is very easy to see the success of people who have balanced their Trigunas. They don't need to fight in anger against others, have a relaxed attitude instead. But they are far from being powerless. Straight and relaxed, with a clear mind and an overwhelming friendly consciousness. And of course they are representing a vital and healthy constitution of the body.
