Conspiracies and conspiracy theories are infamous. If one deals with them one is infamous, too: do you? Nevertheless, they have a strange attraction, the attraction of the unknown. Seen as conspiracy the apparently coincidental becomes meaningful, the chaos gets a direction.

Since the “Illuminatus!” trilogy by Robert Anton Wilson there is no conspiracy theory without the Illuminati. The Bavarian Illuminati Order (from illuminati - the enlightened ones) was a secret society. On May 1st, 1776 it was founded by the philosopher and theologian Adam Weishaupt in Ingolstadt. 1784 the Illuminati were prohibited in Bavaria. 1788 the order vanished from the scene. One year before the French Revolution.

Thus, the Illuminati Order had only existed for eight, resp. twelve years. The foundation day is 5/1. However, 5/1 in the year 1776 (a leap year) is not the 121st but the 122nd day of the year. The checksum of 122: five.

Whereas nowadays one thinks of “Labour Day” or the “Walpurgisnacht” in connection with May 1st, in Bavaria May 1st is the Catholic celebration “Patrona Bavariae”. The patroness of Bavaria is Maria, the Mother of God.

Light and Darkness

An eternal light burns under the statue. The inscription reads: “Under thy shelter we flee, where we live gladly and reliably”.

Was this constellation, this special date important for the foundation of the Illuminati? Weishaupt couldn’t have chosen a better one: the Night of the Witches, the Walpurgisnacht and then the celebration for the adoration of Maria. The dark side of the female, the witch, followed by the idealized Mother of God. Two aspects of the Goddess, and between them the birth of the Illuminati.

The Illuminati began as competitors to the freemasons. They promised inauguration into a genuine mystery: Illuminati instead of boring finger rhymes and ritualised club-going. From the very beginning the secret of the Illuminati concerned the new human, the suppressed body and a new understanding of the sexes.

If you like dismiss it as speculation: but the coherence and harmony are remarkable:

• the date of foundation; the reference to five as cipher of the developed human
• the unity of the poles of the female
• initially the order had been called “Bee Order”, only later Weishaupt renamed it as Illuminati. The bee was the emblem of the royal dynasty of the Merowinger, which is said to have continued the blood line of Jesus.

After a short top level phase the Merowinger - “priest kings”, as they called themselves, abruptly disappeared again. Their trustees from the House of the Carolingians took over power. And bees also decorate the card “the Emperor” in Aleister Crowley’s Thoth Tarot. A coincidence?
