House-Help: Get Rid of Moths

Kleider- Motten

Moths thrive in wardrobes or laundry-closets and put their eggs there. It is difficult to get rid of them once you have them. Even more, when they have already laid their eggs. Moths feed through clothes and laundry and leave numerous holes. But there are household remedies against moths. Essential oils are very effective against moths. Of all oils cedar and lavender oil are particularly suitable.

How to make moth bags yourself

Fill thyme into a small bag. Sprinkle the bag with about 20 drops of lavender oil and 20 drops of cedar oil. You can hang the moth bag on a hanger in your closet, or simply put it on the shelf or in the wardrobe to spread its scent.

Instead of moth bags you can also use cedar in raw form as wood. Or you can simply sprinkle the lavender and cedar oil on a handkerchief and put it in the wardrobe. Also the wood of the “swiss stone pine” (pinus cembra) is very suitable against vermin like moths. But it only grows in the Alps and Carpathians. Thus, it is hard to get.

Tip: If your clothes are already infested with moths, the following helps. Put the garment into a plastic bag and put it in the freezer for about 2-3 days. Moths as well as moth-larvae and eggs perish, and the garment is saved.
