The first contact with a house is the entrance. It gives us the first impression and influences the atmosphere of the house.

In Vastu Shastra the constitution and position of the front door is important as well as its direction and the relation to the garden gate or the main entrance. Everything is interrelated.

The first Impression

The main entrance should be the biggest door of the house. Facing east it brings fame and strength and fulfils the dreams of the inhabitants. A door pointing to the north promises success and fertility.

A stair which leads to the door is advantageous. The main entrance should never lie in the middle of a wall, a door near to the north-east corner is ideal.

For doors in the south or west steps should be completely renounced.

Doors should not face each other, this applies for doors in apartments as well as for front doors. Houses or apartments facing each other may even lead to quarrels between the neighbours, since the cosmic energies unite and make the inhabitants crabby.

I could observe this influence myself in my neighbourhood. A couple always has conflicts with the neighbours whose entrance lies opposite. However, it gets along well with the neighbours whose property is separated by a wall from their property.

Be careful!

Day by day we pass so many doors, it is so normal that we hardly perceive the constitution of a door. Take care that the door can be easily opened and hangs correctly in the hinges? If not, are there maybe obstacles behind it? This could be a hint that enemies might ruin the family. If a door closes by itself, it might bring poverty to the house.

A good front door is preferably of wood, metal doors can be gloomy and lead to anxiety. It's the best when your house has only one main door. Adorn this door with auspicious signs and symbols. Indian as well as celtic signs/ ornaments are migthy symbols. They invite friendly people and prevent destructive energies from the house.

If more than one door are required, two doors should not opposite each other. With plants or curtains energies can be stabilized.
