Vastu at home

A PropertyThe philosophy and the principles of the Vaastu Shastra can be tools that your consciousness sharpens and points out you to small, but disrupting mistakes in your environment.

The principles of the Vaastu Vidya can be applied to every house and to every apartment.

The Property

The character of a property can be determined by the points of the compass and the direction of the adjoining streets.

A vacant north side is advantageous because the cosmic energy can flow freely. A street adjoining the south side of the property can lead to problems. A street adjoining the east side of the property, however, is very favorable, the morning sun strikes the house, since this side is vacant.

The corners of corner properties should neither be rounded nor cut.
  • A good position, especially for women's organisations, is a southeast property. Even better is a north-east property, if the streets in the north and east are on the same level or below the house.
  • A northwest property with the streets in the west and the north is considered as neutral.
  • A southwest property is unsuitable for an apartment house. The southwest which should be blocked is open and vulnerable. It is suitable rather for a business house.
  • However, accidents, illnesses, and burglaries may be promoted by a street lying below the house level.

The form of the house

In Vaastu Vidya the perfect form for the individual rooms and the house is the square. It symbolises the universe as microcosm and is strong and stable. This offers optimum protection against external influences.

If you plan to extend your house, you should know about the possible consequences.

An extension of the house in the north-east promises prosperity and progeny. An extension in the northwest promotes sociability and success. An extension in the southeast promotes health and the harmony of the women in the house. However, Vastu Vidya warns against an extension in the southwest of a house, it can lead to recurrent difficulties. By the extension of a winter garden the form of the house might be corrected.
